Making Your First Email Newsletter: A Tutorial

Email is a form of communication that isn’t going away anytime soon. In the same right, email newsletters are gaining in popularity and importance. If you’re trying to reach your potential customers, then using email newsletter templates is the right way to go. Whether it’s for company news, large projects, and for other business information, email newsletters will help you advertise your business to a large audience.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make your own email newsletter in Photoshop. And we’re going to use some design techniques that are effective.

Get ready!

Starting Off

As a rule of thumb, you should design your newsletter with a fixed width. This prevents using horizontal scroll bars which results from not using the entire width of the screen. For starters, create your newsletter with a width about 550-600px. Important information that’s on the top should have a 300-500px of its height because its the average size of a pane for most email clients.

Setting Up Photoshop

Start up Photoshop and make a new document with a 1000px height and a 800px width. Make sure that it has an RGB color and a 72dpi resolution.

Make a light gray background and a 600 px wide container. The container will hold the main content of your newsletter. Fill it with white and place it in the center of the document.

Let Your Consumers View the Email in Any Browser

Since there is a multitude of web browsers, email newsletter templates have to be accessible on any browser. Because of this, you should also create a link to the newsletter to show the email in a new browser.

Make a New Email Header

For your header, make a rectangle of 600 px under the first header and extend it until it reaches the bottom of your page. Then, gather the content that’s going to be featured in your newsletter. Pick a font that compliments the design of your newsletter to make it appealing to your audience.

Then, duplicate the first entry and move them down to fill out the other spots of the newsletter. Make sure to use Photoshop’s guides to ensure that everything is aligned and remove any extra content that you don’t want in your newsletter.

Add Social Media Links

You need a social media presence so your audience can follow your business and interact with you. Start by making a 252px rectangle and write text to tell your subscribers to follow you. Then add your social media icons and change the colors that correctly reflect your branding.

Creating a Footer

Last, you need a footer to end the newsletter fully. The footer should have a link where your subscribers can contact you. And, it needs another link if they want to unsubscribe from you if they need to.

Your email newsletter is one of the most important things in your online marketing campaign. If you’re unable to design it on your own, then you should get a professional to help you. Ultimately, by creating a good email newsletter, you’ll notice an increase in sales and customer engagement!
